The Canadian Dairy Commission has agreed to a 2.5% increase in farmgate prices effective 1st September. The increase is less than was expected and perhaps reflects the criticism by the retail & processing sectors of the opaque consultative process carried out to reach this decision. It has been pointed out that the Commission’s CEO is Serge Riendeau, previous leader of the Agropur dairy co-operative for 15 years. In a recent interview Lino Saputo Jnr promised that his company intended to see any increase is passed onto consumers.
