Citing cost-efficiency, carbon reduction targets and and a shift to more added-value products, FrieslandCampina have announced the closure of their Rotterdam liquid milks facility that will be merged into their Maasdam facility, about 20 km south of the city. All 142 jobs at Rotterdam will be lost, but Maasdam will add 40 new jobs.
Additionally, two powdering towers at the huge Leeuwarden facility will be de-commissioned, with 55 more jobs lost. The changes will attract one-off costs totalling €45m, and the impact on the ‘Fresh Daily’ business will produce a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions.
