The Canadian Dairy Commission has agreed to a 2.5% increase in farmgate prices effective 1st September. The increase is less than was expected and perhaps reflects the criticism by the retail & processing sectors of the opaque consultative process carried out to reach this decision. It has been pointed out that the Commissionโ€™s CEO is Serge Riendeau, previous leader of the Agropur dairy co-operative for 15 years. In a recent interview Lino Saputo Jnr promised that his company intended to see any increase is passed onto consumers.
