How does this compare to current EU WMP market levels?
Vesper tracks daily spot prices, forward curves, and AI forecasts for EU and global WMP markets, updated every trading day.
How the calculation works
How is theoretical WMP price calculated?
WMP captures all milk solids: fat, protein, lactose, and minerals. Total solids divided by 97% dry matter efficiency gives the WMP yield per 100 kg milk. Dividing milk revenue by that yield gives the theoretical price.
What is the 97% dry matter efficiency?
Standard spray-drying loses approximately 3% of solids to moisture and processing losses. The 97% figure is an industry benchmark for modern EU dairy spray dryers.
What other solids does this calculator assume?
The calculator uses a fixed 5.4% for lactose plus minerals, a reasonable average for standard EU bulk milk. Seasonal and regional variation is small (around 0.3%), so this assumption is appropriate for procurement benchmarking.
How does WMP compare to SMP in valorisation?
WMP captures the full fat value in the powder rather than separating fat to butter. When butter prices are high relative to WMP, separating fat is typically more profitable. The Milk Valorisation Calculator compares both routes side by side.
